This week Adelaide fell in love with Aunt Sheryl. She loves spending time with Aunt Sheryl helping her do whatever she is doing. One of their projects was making cookies. They were yummy. They also cleaned and organized various parts of grandma's house. Addie loves to help and calls her self a good worker.

Another fun happening of the week was grape harvest at our house. John and Harold picked the grapes then we plucked them off the vine and put them in bottles for grape juice. Such a great treat and simple recipe it is a must on the fall canning list.

We also went to beet harvest and lunch.

The kids all got to ride with various uncles and grandparents and really enjoyed the time to visit, observe, and explore the beet harvest world.

A great treat for Reed and Harold was a little dog named Tiger who was a surprise guest at lunch time.

He is little dog just REed's size but nice and not yippy. The boys really enjoyed loving him. Addie was brave and rode alone with papa
Corn in the digger tractor.
After lunch we went and harvested some of the very LARGE pumpkins that we had planted in Grandma Corn's garden this spring.

They were huge and we were thankful super HArold was there to carry them to the car. There were enough pumpkins for all of grandma Corn's grandkids. Funny how that works out each year. We also harvested some more pie pumpkins. Since pumpkin is supposed to be scarce in the store this fall and the pumpkins were there why not. I steam it then run it through a food mill- which I won't do this time. I will just scrape the meat and mash it and bag it in 1 C measurements and freeze. It smelled really good and was not watery. We are excited to find time for pumpkin pie. It is always fun to pick out pumpkins but pretty neat to remember back to planting and how the small effort is a big reward.
Aliza is modeling her apron and bonnet from a birthday party. They decorated both and made personal mini-pizzas. I think I may have to use that for a party idea in the future she had a great time and loved being with her friends.

As usual the week was busy. Corn harvest started here on the farm so each child (almost) has spent over an hour in the new combine with grandpa. It is exciting to ride and get their turn. It is nice to see the crops go and know they are safely harvested. Mark, John, and Harold helped build fence on Saturday and MArk got the job of cleaning the wire from left over stalks. He walked the entire 2 mile fence cleaning it so it would be ready to shock when the cows come tomorrow. He is super excited to have more cows to watch. He informed me he wants to be a cow, a milk cow-we'll see- for Halloween. So any simple ideas for that creation would be helpful.
John finished his birthday celebration with new jeans and a sword which talks. Why do they make talking toys for kids? Do they really want parents more crazy? It is a hit and I can't wait for the batteries to die. Our helpful grandma assured him when they did she would get more. We might forget to tell her they are dead. Harold and John have had a great time making shields and sword fighting all weekend long. Brothers are a blessing what do single brothers do for a sparing partner?
Aliza gained the top reader award in school. She is very competitive and when another child was ahead of her it really got under her skin. She has been working hard to take the lead and accomplished it this week. I hope she remembers to do her other work too.
Anna is a great help in all things. She is becoming quite the young lady and is enjoying school and her extra pursuits as well. She and Harold learned skating in PE this week. They were surprised to learn that grandma Saunders is an expert, they said it was really hard. Skating rinks seem to be a thing of the past in our area, too bad as it is a fun hobby.
We continue to be busy with life and work and glad for the small moments of peace and rest. We played Monopoly as a family last night. While it was just short of chaos for the first minutes it settled into a fun game that is great for math drill. I had forgotten how many math skills it requires. We will be playing again as it was a good time. We hope all is well for the you and yours and hope you continue to enjoy reaping your harvest of life and work this fall. Best to you all.
