We are officially in graduation season. This weekend uncle Matt affectionately known as Big Guns graduated as Valedictorian of Vale High School. I do not have pictures as I forgot my camera and while posing for pictures after the 4 cameras present were enough for the attention and grace span of most involved. So Brenda please include some pictures so I can add them to my personal log. As I was pondering and dreading going to graduation I wondered why we take our children. I don't recall going to any kind of graduation before my junior year in high school when I had to be there as a new officer in honor society. So why do we put our kids and selves through this every couple years? This year is a record though probably not to be repeated with 1 college graduation and two high schools. Both uncle Matt and Aunt Rachel are Valedictorians.

The only thing I could come up with is that  I want them to know/see that education is important and it is what we do. That high school is not the ending point in their learning journey and that college degrees are attainable. So we sit through speeches and long lists of students who achieved this milestone. And we all survive and it is not that bad.

We stopped after church and snacked on some crackers so we wouldn't be "starving" through the ceremonies. So we were right on time to the proceedings. We had been saved seats on the far corner of the gym. This allowed us the experience of walking all 9 of us through and in front of the full crowd. It is always character building to do this. When I see all 9 of us around the dinner table it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Greg and I are both oldest (he's the oldest boy) in our families. So lots of bodies is what we have always known. But in public settings like this one it is quite an oddity now days. I won't delve too deeply into this subject but I will say we are a peculiar site. From our church clothes that covered all of our bodies, to the number, to the age we are unusual.

But we are able to get a lot done or undone depending on the situation. The boys and I planted my mom's garden last week. It is kinda nice to just drop in the seeds and be pretty confident they will grow. Reed loved all the dirt to be played with. I had bought a hand trowel to transplant with and he had a great time holding it and throwing/digging/holding the dirt in his other hand. Of course I didn't have my camera because I was working but it was cute. So even my littlest is very familiar with the greatness of dirt.

I was surprised and delighted to receive two new vegetable peelers for my birthday. The boys are shown giving them a trial run.! They work great and even cut thumbs so we are learning to be more careful and to use more caution. Last night I was making turkey noodle soup for dinner. I make homemade noodles but this time Aliza and MArk took over and made all the noodles. I had got the dough rolled out and they took it from there. YEAH!!! They were proud and did a great job. Harold is posing like uncle big guns.

Funny conversation on the way home from graduation. "MAtt is big guns because he has big muscles and Jay is little guns because he has littler muscles." THis is MArks explanation of the situation. I said well then dad should be called mighty muscles because he has big muscles too. So now dad is mighty muscles...

So that's our life here for now. I am trying to force myself to spend at least 30 minutes a day pulling weeds. I asked a neighbor for grass clippings as I don't have a bagging lawn mower. She was surprised when I explained I was going to use them as weed control she just looked at me like I was crazy. I said don't you have weeds? Maybe my house is the only one gone to weeds. Oh well lots of time to soak up the sun if it would get over 50 degrees. Still cold here but the weeds are doing well. I was able to have one good conversation with Harold over the weeds last week and I see small green strawberries coming and the peas are climbing so I have hope of more good times to come. Best to you all.

This is a short video clip but I liked the example of consistency vs. major production. We are shooting for consistent in so many things so hopefully it will yield.
