We are experiencing the bliss of summer vacation this week. Well maybe bliss is strong language but it is so refreshing to have everyone home. It always amazes me how the play changes from one summer to the next.

Our cousin Megan invited us to go swimming Tuesday night. We try to go swimming with her when she is here, because we took her when she lived her. In fact the kids call the ontario pool Megan's pool. I really like Greg to go because it is one more set of hands and eyes. And with all the kids getting into and out of and playing in the water that's very necessary to have 2 adults dedicated to just keeping them in sight. When we arrived at the shop he was not planning on going. After I told him we would be back later with less kids because some will most likely drown he being a responsible parent came. We helped him pack up his tools. It was so cute seeing the boys try to close the garage doors. The doors are on the old rope pull style and there wasn't quite enough weight from the boys to get it done like dad. So they ganged up or hung up there with all their 70 lbs and eventually got them closed. Swimming was great and as you can tell no one drown.

The kids have migrated their playing to the "high place" or a partially finished tree house.

However, only the big kids can really get up to the platform, which is okay. Why would I help them to a greater height to better insure a broken arm or leg or neck? So they were letting Addy run around the yard with her "gun" and kill things well sometimes she would go down (intentionally) and would lay on the ground tongue out lying still until she revived and went back to running. I tried to get a picture but she wouldn't stay down. IT was so funny.

The teachers all told me the kids need reading, math, and writing this summer. So after our trip to the library I have been encouraging Anna and Aliza to read to the kids. The younger kids really enjoy the stories and I enjoy hearing them read and being able to get some other stuff done. Anna has read 3 chapter books independently so far, this is big for her. She has struggled with reading but has turned the corner and we are thankful for that. I love seeing any of the kids sitting engrossed in a book. WEll except when they are supposed to be working, but really it makes my heart sing to have them love reading. We are reading Mrs. Coverlett's Magicians as a family and it is a delightful tale we laugh at. Thanks Aunt GWen.

Last notes about the kids pics. They also like the wagon game where two horses (John and Aliza) pull and Anna and Reed and Addy ride in the back for a ride. Or sometimes Addy and Mark push. Anna said she knows why the pioneers walked because it is so bumpy in the wagon. Anyway you might notice the wagon ruts in the grass because they love this game.

So the same things from summer to summer so far is the girls like their summer dresses. Made from cutting off 2-4 inches of a cheap wal-mart shirt and attaching a 2 width skirt for the older girls. They love these dresses. They are cool, girly and a summer tradition.

Now on to my week. On Wed? I did genealogy!!! I have been concerned since the death of my grandfather that we were not linked up that someone was missing. Well I got on newfamilysearch.org and I am now on there with my husband and his family and we are all linked up!!! IT was so awesome I even found 1 male and 1 female name that had no work done yet. So I am excited to do their work. It was a neat experience as I have dreaded genealogy and been relying on my super grandmother who loves it to keep me filled with names and guilt free (sort of) with all of her hard work. She is the lady in the know and walked me through the steps of signing up and linking up my family.  Thanks grandma.

I also got an unexpected gift this week. The picture showing the papers and purse is mine from when I was 3 1/2 years old. It was found in one of my grandfathers pickups from that time period. My mom brought it out and said Amanda do you recognize this? Now I admittedly don't have a lot of memories of childhood but I vaguely recalled this. I was so surprised. See my daughters Aliza and Addy collect similar stuff and put it into their purses. It honestly has really bugged me that they collect so much stuff. I wondered what was wrong with them. But here is my collection. Coupons, papers, envelopes, broken crayons and pencils, some game tokens from the McDonald's game at the time. It was very tender that he had saved it for all these years. It was also very humbling that my daughters are more like me than I remember. I was very thankful to have been given this glimpse into myself many years ago.

So we are busy with life and summer. It's not hot here but there have been pleasant days. We enjoy being together and the freedom of being able to go to bed late and sleep in a bit.

Harold also had his first Cub Scout Day Camp. He loved shooting the bows and arrows, and BB Guns and playing football. What a great organization scouts continues to be.

The kids were also forced to go to the play Cinderella. The boys didn't want to go once they learned the couldn't be the guard (Harold) or the prince (John). But they were told they would go once in their life and see what it was then we would commit or not to play practices. They loved it my grandma said they sat as if in a trance. And the only complaint was too much kissing (ANna) and why did they sing about everything (HArold!).

Wishing you the best, we hope you are enjoying being together and being a family this summer. And remembering the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That probably those traits that are most frustrating are just being repeated.  Oh and the last pictures are Mr in his new sunday clothes looking like a big boy.

Yes his hand/burn is wrapped to prevent infection. It is healing nicely.  The girls are posing for Harold to take the picture. Love to you all.
