We have enjoyed the summer finally descending upon us this last week. It came while the family was re-unioning here at the farm. We had a great time visiting, playing, eating with, and dancing. This year our family reunion was in conjunction with our Town's Ward reunion. I was not super excited when I heard about a ward reunion but it proved to be a poignant reminder of times that we have lost or given up from the past. Times that were VERY fun. We had an all you can eat corn and watermelon feed on Friday night. Then a family dance after. I didn't have my camera but my Aliza and her cousin danced together each dance. My other kids danced with me or Greg or each other it was just a great time. Seeing all the smiling mom's and dad's who got to dance together and with their young un's made me wish we did these things more than rarely. It was good to teach our children to dance to show them how adults dance and that dances don't need to be dark, raucous music and complete abandon of morals. The next day we had a potluck dinner and talent show. Now I am not one who participates in talent shows and this was no exception. However the family was represented well by my nieces and nephews who are amazing cloggers, and then 3 square dance circles of approx 8 people in each doing an incredible dance called the MErry Bee. My husband was of course the focus of my adoration and wow was he AWESOME!!! Being tired and needing to be the parent watching the kids Greg danced with his sister Brenda. They were so fun to watch. Again I wished we still learned real dances and had times to participate in them. There was a real variety of talent from singing and piano playing to clogging and karate it was a great show to see many different forms of developing your best self.

The reunion was great well attended and harmonious. It always does me good to feel the strength of a large family. To know that there are many many others out there who are trying and doing their best at living with faith, integrity, and optimism. And I especially love the visits and the times to sample new fabulous food dishes that the great cooks in the family bring to sample.
The rest of the week we were able to enjoy having one family of cousins visit who happen to have kids most of my kids ages. It was so heartwarming to see my John who thinks he is shy to make a friend. To really have a buddy. It is the wish of my heart that my kids like each other but I totally hope that they make a true friend or two along the way in their life. This boy is about 6 mos older than John and they had the best time riding bikes, playing, talking, taking care of chores etc. It has given John new confidence and me comfort that he has experienced that special delight in a person who just wants to be your pal. The girls also had cousins the same age and of course were inseparable. It was an added bonus that some of our older male cousins were here too who are game to play/carry/wrestle/listen to the kids. The kids had the best week.

It always surprises me when our cousins or friends come how interesting our animal chores are. something that is so mundane and routine that my kids really don't appreciate it anymore yet when the out of towners come that is what they all want to do. So funny how our mundane is another's mecca. We were encouraged today to write in our journals fro that reason that our lives, experiences and strength will be of help to our future generations. It made me think how grateful I have been to have began this project to take note of my life and to share what we are doing and to try to do better with what we are doing.

Last night we were able to celebrate my dad's birthday with a family dinner. My mom went out on a limb and invited extended aunts and cousins. It was so great to visit and be a family. It's surprising how different yet how similar lives are. It was good for my kids who apparently are pretty sheltered when they asked a cousin in attendance if she was LDS and she said no they weren't sure what to say. I told her I appreciated her broadening their horizons.
Best to you hope you enjoy these dwindling days of summer. We are trying to squeeze some more fun and work in and not melt in the process. Love to you all. OH and a really great read if you are looking for something to broaden your horizons "A Patriots Handbook of America" by Larry Sweikart. So good!!! I am just eating up the great run through AMerica's history it offers. So amazing to learn the why and how of our amazingly blessed country. Best to you. A
